Evaluating Information: Using Wikipedia as a Research Source

Is this true?

Answer: No way.  Though Wikipedia has been found to be fairly accurate, the problem is that you don't know who wrote each article.  In the research world, there is a term called "authority".  The author (root of authority) must be an expert on the topic they are writing about to make it a good research source.  Since you don't know if the writer of a Wikipedia article is an expert, you cannot use it as a legitimate source of information.  How do you know if they are an expert.  Well, people with advanced college degrees like doctorates (Ph.Ds) are usually experts in a field.  But are they an expert in the topic that you are researching.  To be really sure, I suggest using database articles found in a library.  That's the best way. :)
